Vol. 83 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Killarney Mental Hospital Inquiry.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if it was on his instructions or with his permission that representatives of the Press were excluded from the inquiry held by his inspector in the board room of Killarney Mental Hospital on May 20th; whether he will state the grounds on which it was decided to hold the inquiry in camera despite the protests against such procedure of the persons directly concerned in the result of the proceedings.

There is no statutory obligation to hold any such inquiry in public, and the decision not to hold it in public was accordingly a matter within the discretion of the Inspector of Mental Hospitals.
