Vol. 83 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Arigna Coal Production.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state in respect of each of the last five years (a) the quantities of coal extracted in Arigna, (b) the quantities of such coal made available to coal merchants for the retail trade, (c) the quantity sold direct to institutions and other non-trading buyers, and (d) the average price at which such coal was sold expithead by the colliery company to the coal merchants.

The quantities of semi-bituminous coal raised in this country are published in the Census of Industrial Production and, as this is the type of coal raised in the Arigna area, these figures indicate the quantities of coal raised in the Arigna area:—

1936

29,509 tons

1937

20,958 tons

1938

27,751 tons

1939

28,732 tons

1940

43,607 tons

The other information asked for by the Deputy is not in my possession, so that I am not in a position to answer those parts of the question.
