Vol. 83 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Foot-and-Mouth Disease Outbreaks.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether in regard to his allegation concerning the prevalence of foot-and-mouth disease in County Kilkenny that certain people had advised some farmers not to pay any attention to the veterinary inspectors, he will state what action he has taken or intends taking against the persons tendering such advice to farmers, and, further, whether he will state what action has been taken or is in contemplation in regard to the persons at one farm who resisted the veterinary inspectors with pitchforks.

Some difficulty was created in the early stages of the outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease in County Kilkenny because of ill-advised statements which had been made, but in view of the fact that the persons concerned did not persist in that course and that the farmers and members of the public in general have given the officers of the Department of Agriculture their full co-operation in operating measures considered necessary for dealing with the epidemic, it is not proposed to take any action in the matter.
