Vol. 83 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bannow Harbour Improvements.

asked the Minister for Finance whether, in connection with the recent visit of the county surveyor to Bannow Harbour, County Wexford, to inspect the harbour with a view to the construction of a protective wall, he is aware that a number of local fishermen, who were anxious to put forward an alternative temporary scheme based on the building up of the old breakwater already there, had no opportunity of meeting the surveyor, and whether, before coming to any decision on the surveyor's report, the Minister will arrange to allow these local fishermen, who are thoroughly conversant with the dangers and difficulties of fishing through the harbour, an opportunity of seeing the surveyor and of putting their alternative scheme before him.

I am not aware that a number of local fishermen who were anxious to put forward an alternative temporary scheme had no opportunity of meeting the county surveyor on the occasion of his recent inspection of the harbour. If the Deputy will furnish the Commissioners of Public Works with the names and addresses of the fishermen he has in mind, and with particulars of the views they wish to put forward, the matter will be considered.
