Vol. 83 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tractor Owners' Fuel Requirements.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will say whether he is aware that the recent questionnaire circulated by his Department to tractor owners with reference to fuel requirements for the harvest will not give him sufficient accurate and reliable data to enable the responsible authority to allocate the fuel correctly, and if he will consider the advisability of utilising the local knowledge of a person such as the county agricultural instructor to assist in making this allocation.

As was anticipated, the questionnaire to which the Deputy refers has yielded useful information, though not in all cases of a sufficiently accurate or reliable nature on which to base recommendations relative to supply of fuel to individual owners of tractors. Local inquiries will be instituted in cases where the information given in reply to the questionnaire is, for any reason, unsatisfactory.
