Vol. 83 No. 17

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Family Allowances.

asked the Minister for Finance whether the Interdepartmental Committee which has been examining the question of family allowances has yet reported on the probable cost of any practical scheme of this character.

The committee has not reported on the probable cost of any scheme. As I indicated in reply to Deputy Norton on the 4th instant, it may be some time before its investigations are completed.

Would the Minister consider, without hindering the completion of its investigations asking the committee to give an estimate of what the various schemes would cost, quite apart from their ultimate report on the merits of the schemes?

I will consider that.
