Vol. 84 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Publication of Dáil Proceedings.

asked the Minister for the Co-ordination of Defensive Measures if he will state whether any instruction, request, order or direction was communicated to the newspaper Press concerning the publication or the non-publication of the proceedings in Dáil Eireann on Wednesday, June 25th, 1941, and, if so, whether he will state the nature or effect of any such communication.

The answer to the question is in the affirmative. Newspapers were prohibited from referring directly or indirectly to declarations made in the Dáil on 24th June, 1941, by Deputies Norton and Corish to the effect that in the event of the passage of the Bill under discussion they would advocate non-recognition and non-observance of the law.

The question refers to the 25th June, and the answer deals with the 24th June.

I think that is due to a mistake on the Deputy's part. The occasion was the 24th.

It is not a question of a mistake in the date. This has to do with the prohibition of the publication of news.

I shall look into the matter and give a reply to the Deputy to-morrow or the day after.

Why is it that the reference to Deputy Norton as a leader of Muscovites was not suppressed?
