Vol. 84 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Firewood Supplies in County Cork.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that, while Castletownroche and Ballyhooly are in a district producing neither turf nor coal, his Department is forwarding firewood from the local woods at the rate of 30 tons per weefe to Cork City to continue for 54 weeks; if, therefore, in view of a shortage of fuel to be anticipated in such circumstances in the district next winter he will correct this anomalous arrangement by reserving a sufficiency of the said firewood for local needs.

The firewood which is being cut and transported from the State forest lands at Ballyhooly is utilised in connection with a scheme for the provision of reserve stocks of fuel. The Forestry Department is not the only holder of woodlands in this neighbourhood and a reasonable quantity of firewood will be available in the locality for the local people.
