Vol. 84 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Wexford Housing Scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is aware that a number of houses at Kilmuckridge, Gorey County Wexford, were condemned by the medical officer of health as far back as the year 1934; that in the year 1938 a site was finally selected and acquired for a village housing scheme; that representations have been made on a number of occasions to the local authority and to the Minister's Department on behalf of the occupiers of the condemned houses complaining of the delay in putting the said scheme into operation; that grave hardship has been caused to persons awaiting new houses; and whether the Minister can see his way to have the said scheme expedited, and whether he will state what were and are the causes of the delay.

The Wexford Board of Health have an excellent record in providing new houses through their county and delays have been very rare indeed. In this case difficulties arose in regard to the acquisition of the land by the refusal of the owners to facilitate the board. It was only after payment of compensation in February last that the board were in a position to enter the lands so as to have the requisite plans prepared, the owner being unwilling to allow the board to enter the lands until the compensation therefor had been handed over.
