Vol. 84 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Payment of Land Annuities.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware of the great number of farmers who, being deprived of a market for their young store cattle owing to the foot-and-mouth crisis, find themselves without any means of meeting land annuity payments, and whether, in these special circumstances, he will arrange not to press for these payments until there is again a possibility of selling cattle, or, alternatively, until after the harvest when they will be in a better position to find the money from the sale of corn crops.

The Land Commission are under a statutory obligation to collect the Land Purchase annuities as they accrue due, but in connection with the institution of proceedings against defaulters regard will be had to the present exceptional circumstances.
