Vol. 85 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Paraffin Allowance in West Cork.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he is aware of the plight of small shoemakers, carpenters, smiths, harness-makers, tailors, dressmakers, etc., who ply their trade in remote places like West Cork and are unable to carry on without paraffin oil; and will he endeavour to make some monthly allocation (apart from their domestic allowance) to this deserving class of persons.

I have accorded the fullest consideration to the question of paraffin requirements for the lighting of workshops of the kinds mentioned in the question, and I regret that, owing to the very limited quantities available, no special allowance can at present be made for such purposes.

If there is any improvement in the position, will the Minister keep these people in mind as having a prior claim?

Certainly.
