Vol. 85 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Island Communications.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state the total cost of establishing communication between Baltimore, Cape Clear, Hare Island and Sherkin Island, and further whether the reports he has received of the working of the scheme are satisfactory or otherwise.

The total cost of establishing radio communication between Baltimore and Cape Clear, Hare and Sherkin Island was £1,348.

The service to Hare and Sherkin Islands is quite satisfactory, but some difficult is being experienced on the direct circuit to Cape Clear. It has, however, been arranged, as a temporary measure, for Sherkin Island to relay traffic between Baltimore and Cape Clear and an efficient service is being afforded in this way. The possibility of resuming the direct service to Cape Clear will be examined further in the spring when weather conditions permit.
