Vol. 85 No. 15

Central Bank Bill, 1942—First Stage.

Leave granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to establish a Bank to be the principal currency authority in the State, to dissolve the Currency Commission and transfer its powers and duties (with certain modifications) to the said Bank, to confer on the said Bank divers other powers and duties, and to provide for other matters connected with banking, currency, coinage, and the matters aforesaid and in particular for the gradual extinction of consolidated bank notes—(Minister for Finance.)

When is it proposed to take the Second Stage?

This day fortnight.

When will it be circulated?

A fortnight is not enough time for a Bill of this type.

It will be only the Second Stage.

Even for the Second Stage. It should be at least three weeks.

If the Deputy thinks the time is not long enough we could give three weeks.

That would be the 25th inst.

We will not sit on that date.

The 25th or the nearest subsequent sitting day.
