Vol. 86 No. 4

Insurance (Intermittent Unemployment) Bill, 1939—Report Stage.

I move the following amendment:—

In page 10, lines 25 to 37, to delete Section 18 (4) and to substitute the following sub-section:—

(4) Where a person is employed in any calendar week under the same employer partly in insurable employment and partly in other employment, then, notwithstanding anything contained in sub-section (3) of this section, no weekly contribution shall be payable in respect of that person for that calendar week unless half or more than half of the time during which he is so employed is in the insurable employment.

This amendment is designed to meet a point raised by Deputy McGilligan on the Committee Stage, when he asked that circumstances under which insurance contributions would be payable in respect of casual workers would be clearly defined so that the possibility of dispute arising would be minimised.

Amendment put and agreed to.

If there is any objection to taking the Fifth Stage of the Bill now, I propose to take it to-morrow.

Is there any objection?

Leave it till to-morrow.

Very well.

Fifth Stage to be taken to-morrow.
