Vol. 86 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Supply of Flake Oatmeal.

asked the Minister for Supplies whether he is aware of the acute shortage of flake oatmeal, and if he will state what steps he has taken to make such meal available.

I am aware that there is a shortage of flake oatmeal. I see no prospect of that shortage being alleviated as the millers' requirements of oats have not come on the market.

When may people expect to get flake oatmeal again?

After the harvest.

Not until then?

Unless the millers can get oats, they cannot supply flake oatmeal.

Does not the Minister know the amount of oats grown last year, and what steps did he take to secure that these oats would be put on the market so as to secure a supply of oatmeal?

There was not enough oats grown.

And yet we are supposed to have a Department of Supplies and a Department of Agriculture.

The Deputy is trying to make political propaganda out of this matter—not very successfully.

That is not so.

A little less sabotage from the Labour Party would do us no harm.
