asked the Minister for Education if he will state in respect of the years 1940/41 and 1941/42 the number of primary schools paid special grants for the teaching of extra subjects, the extra subjects taught, and the amounts paid in respect of each extra subject.

Special grants are paid only in respect of the teaching of cookery, laundry and domestic economy. Particulars regarding the payment of grants are as follows:—

Notice was given in respect of 567 schools that it was intended to teach Cookery, Laundry Work or Domestic Economy for grants during the school year. Particulars as to the number of schools in which the subjects were, in fact, taught, and as to the amount of grants to be paid will not be available for some considerable time. |
NOTE: In addition to the amount paid for the 1940/41 school year in respect of instruction given in National Schools, the sum of £257 12s. 0d. was paid to 15 Vocational Schools for instruction in these subjects to National School pupils.
