asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state (a) the total estimated quantity of barley produced last year, (b) the total quantity used for malting purposes.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 6 and 7 together.

Particulars of the estimated produce of grain crops of the 1941 harvest were published in the March 1942 issue of the Irish Trade Journal.

The total quantity of oats handled by licensed dealers according to returns furnished to the Cereals Distribution Committee was approximately 33,250 tons.

The total quantity of barley similarly purchased was 60,000 tons. Practically all of this barley has been used for malting and brewing, distilling and other industrial purposes.
