Vol. 87 No. 11

Committee on Finance. - Vote 28—Quit Rent Office.

I move:—

That a sum not exceeding £1,711 be granted to complete the sum necessary to defray the Charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending on the 31st day of March, 1943, for the Salaries and Expenses of the Quit Rent Office.

Mr. Brennan

Is the Parliamentary Secretary not going to tell us anything about this Vote?

I have two pages here of a legal definition of a quit rent, but I think I had better send them to the Deputy.

Mr. Brennan

The House would be interested to know what the Quit Rent Office is.

It seems to be gradually dying of inanition, thank God.

Where does the money go?

Do not ask me any more about quit rents. It is the only thing on which I ask for mercy.

Vote put and agreed to.
