Vol. 87 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Lixnaw Co-Operative Creamery, Ltd.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state whether an Order has been issued prohibiting the carrying on of milling at the mill of the Lixnaw Co-operative Creamery, Limited; and, if so, if he will state (1) the date the mill was originally established; (2) the average number of persons employed weekly immediately prior to the issue of the Order; (3) the form of motive power used; (4) the cause of the prohibition; (5) the date and nature of any offence alleged to have been committed in connection with the mill; (6) the date and nature and result of any inquiry held into such alleged offence.

I would refer the Deputy to the answer given to similar questions on Tuesday, the 23rd instant.

Will the Minister say if an offence was committed in this particular case? That information is not given in the reply to which he now refers. The reply to which he refers stated that offences were committed in some cases. I asked if an offence had been committed in this case, and that question has not been answered.

The question whether an offence was or was not committed in a particular case is a matter for the courts and not for me.

Is it alleged that an offence was committed? That is a matter for the Minister.

If so, the allegation will be made in court.

It is the Minister who is responsible for bringing these cases to court. Is it alleged in this case that an offence was committed?

The permit in this case was withdrawn to conserve supplies of food essential to the life of the community.

Will the Minister say how that practice conserves supplies of food? If there is any foundation for the statement he made yesterday, that 50,000 or 60,000 tons of wheat have been fed to animals——

That is a separate question.

Does he not consider that neglect of the conveniences of the farmers is, at least, a contributing cause to such action? How will this course conserve supplies?

That is another question.
