Vol. 88 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wages of Forestry Workers.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that men employed on forestry work at Mogeely and Castlemartyr receive only a wage of 30/- a week, less 8d. a week deducted for National Health Insurance stamp; whether he is satisfied that this is an adequate wage for such strenuous and useful work considering that it is the lowest wage paid for any work done in the district; and, if not, what steps he intends to take to bring the wages of such workers to the standard payable in the district.

The wages of labourers employed at the forestry centres in question (and at other centres) were increased by 2/- per week as from 27th June, 1942, and are now paid at the rate of 32/- for a 48 hour week.
