asked the Minister for Finance if he will state, in respect of the years 1939-40, 1940-41 and 1941-42, the proportion of the total tax revenue derived from indirect taxation.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Indirect Taxation.
The question as to whether a particular tax should be regarded as direct or indirect is in many cases a matter of opinion. Full details of the revenue derived from each particular tax are shown in the Finance Accounts which are published annually. Those for 1939-40 and 1940-41 are already available and those for 1941-42 will be published shortly.
Is the Minister aware that there is a lot of indirect taxation that does not appear in the accounts?
The accounts include all the revenue from all taxes.
