Vol. 88 No. 18

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Mayo Estate.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that acute congestion exists in the electoral divisions of Ballindine and Kilrine; that the poor law valuations of over 60 tenants in those divisions are under £5 each, and if he will state what steps, if any, are being taken to acquire part of the 300-acre farm held by Mrs. Ryan, Castlereagh, Irishtown, County Mayo, for the relief of those tenants.

The Land Commission published a notice of intention to apply to the Appeal Tribunal for leave to resume portion of the holding of Mrs. Kate Ryan, Castlereagh, but a petition against the proposed resumption was lodged by the tenant. Further action was deferred pending the clarification of the Land Commission's powers of resumption by the Land Act, 1939, and proceedings in the matter are at present suspended owing to emergency conditions.
