asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the total number of applications for increased rates of wages submitted for his approval under Emergency Powers (Nos. 83 and 166) Orders (a) previous to August 19th 1942, and (b) subsequent to that date; the number of such applications already referred by him to the advisory tribunals, and the number of reports received from the tribunals since the above-mentioned date; also the total number of claims sanctioned by him up to the 21st November, 1942.

Is it too much to ask the Minister, when employers who appear before the tribunal with trade unions make written statements that they are prepared to pay the increase, that payment of the bonus should date from the time the application was made?
That was so in the majority of cases, but the function of the tribunal is to report to me on the effect it would have on the cost of living or on employment.
I want to have the increase given from a given date.
It is possible to antedate the bonus Order and it is as a rule ante-dated to whatever date is agreed on. I know that there is one case where the question as to what was agreed on is still in dispute. That may be the case to which the Deputy is referring. I can assure the Deputy that in that case I made an Order on a basis which I was given to understand was agreed to.
I wish to remind the Minister that cases have been agreed on by both parties before the tribunal where the employers agreed to pay the bonus from April.
It is not possible to date the bonus Order as far back as April before the main Order was made.
