Vol. 89 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wexford Road Ganger's Wages.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he has yet arrived at a decision in connection with the proposal of the Wexford County Council, to increase the wages of their road gangers.

No decision has yet been given, but I may point out that the present wages of working gangers in Wexford County, namely, 40/- a week, compares favourably with the average rate of wages paid to such employees throughout the rest of the country.

In view of the fact that the decision of the county council was communicated to the Minister six months ago, would the Minister give any idea as to when he will arrive at a decision? Is he aware that gangers are constantly using their bicycles, and that the upkeep of a bicycle to-day involves a good deal of money? Can he say when he will arrive at a decision?

Pehaps at an early date.
