Vol. 89 No. 1

In Committee. - Standing Order 80A—Motion.

I move:—

That, notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained in Standing Order 80A (Time limit to debate on private members' motions), the time allowed for the debate on the motion made by Deputy Keyes on 25th November shall not exceed a period of six hours in the aggregate.

Is the whole time required for it?

The motion says "shall not exceed" six hours.

Could we get any information as to what procedure is to govern motions of this kind?

Three hours is the time allowed by Standing Order.

I know. Does it mean that whenever the Government desires, it will be spread out to six?

It is for the House to decide.

Surely when a motion is being moved we ought to get some information on it.

We seek the consent of the Parties before moving a motion of this kind.

Have all Parties agreed to it?

In this case only, not in any other?

It has never arisen before, as far as I know.

Question put and agreed to.
