Vol. 89 No. 1

Written Answers. - Flooding of Mayo River.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that considerable damage is sustained by farmers in South Mayo through the flooding of the Clare-Dalgan river; that several petitions were sent to the Commissioners of Public Works by the Mayo County Council requesting the drainage of that river; and if he will state what steps, if any, are being taken to have the drainage of the said river carried out.

Consideration of the proposal for the drainage of the Clare-Dalgan river was deferred on the setting up of the Drainage Commission.

As has been indicated in the Dáil on several occasions, the preparation of new legislation arising out of the commission's report is in hands, and any action in relation to new drainage works must await the enactment of the new legislation.
