Vol. 89 No. 3

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Army Pensions Act.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that no provision has been made in the Army Pensions Acts to deal with claims made in respect of disease contracted subsequent to the 30th September, 1924, during service in the Defence Forces; and if he intends to remedy this state of affairs with retrospective effect.

I am aware that no provision has been made in the Army Pensions Acts to deal with claims in respect of diseases contracted subsequent to the 30th September, 1924, during service in the Defence Forces. Legislation is about to be introduced, however, making provision for persons discharged from the Forces, suffering from disease attributable to service in the Forces during the present emergency period.

Would the Minister say whether that legislation will be retrospective in effect or not?

To the period of emergency.

Not earlier than that?
