Vol. 89 No. 3

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Postmistresses and Bonus.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether sub-postmistresses are included among the civil servants entitled to benefit by the recent decision to grant bonuses as from January 1st; and, if they are so included, whether any discrimination is made between married and unmarried officials; and, further, whether in view of their already inadequate scale of remuneration and the additional duties which have to be carried out in sub-offices, the Minister will now consider extending the payment of bonuses to all postmistresses, married or single.

The Government decision to grant increased remuneration to public servants on account of the increased cost of living included in principle sub-postmasters and sub-postmistresses. The delay in the payment of an increase is due to the difficult and complicated nature of their employment. Details of suitable scales of payment will be arranged as quickly as possible.

Has the rate of bonus payable to postmistresses yet been settled?
