Vol. 89 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Broadcasting Orchestra.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if it is the intention of Radio Eireann to confine the recently advertised vacancies in the Radio Eireann Orchestra to Irish nationals.

The answer is in the negative. Where candidates are equal as regards professional qualifications and general suitability, preference will naturally be given to nationals. I assume that the Deputy is as anxious as I am that the orchestra will be open to the very best talent available.

Is the Minister aware that there are certain musicians coming into this country since the outbreak of war, evading service in their own country, who, I understand, will be applicants for these posts? Surely the Minister will not consider giving posts to any of these people?
