Vol. 89 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Compensation for Acquired Land.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state when the Turf Development Board propose to pay compensation to Mr. James McCann, Drumsree, Rathangan, County Kildare, from whom the board acquired land in January, 1942.

The matter of compensation which may be payable in respect of boglands taken over for the purposes of the Government turf production scheme is having attention and it is hoped that at an early date it may be possible to open negotiations with the various owners.

May I call the Parliamentary Secretary's attention to the fact that this man's land was taken from him 13 months ago? Is it not fair to ask that the matter of compensation should be taken in hands immediately? Will he endeavour to ensure that this man will be compensated for land which yielded him an income, when he had it? The man has now neither land nor income. Will the Minister expedite matters in this particular case?
