Vol. 89 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bread Subsidy (Muinebeag).

asked the Minister for Supplies if he is aware that his Department refused payment of bread subsidy to Mrs. Brigid Hickey, St. Brigid's Crescent, Muinebeag, County Carlow, the owner of a small bakery, on the grounds that she failed to keep proper accounts; and if he will say whether he would be prepared to reconsider the decision if proper accounts were furnished by traders who purchased bread from Mrs. Hickey.

Payment of bread subsidy in the particular case referred to by the Deputy and in several others, has been refused as the bakers concerned did not keep the required weekly records of sales of batch bread upon which the subsidy is based. Licensed batch bread bakers are required to keep this record amongst others as a condition attached to their licences and payments of moneys out of public funds cannot be made to them unless they keep the necessary records of sales of batch bread. No other records can be accepted and an exception to this rule cannot be made in any individual case.
