Vol. 89 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Facilities for Voters.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will see that in all future local or parliamentary elections each elector shall be provided with a record of his place of voting, table number and voting number.

This matter was raised in debate on the Expiring Laws Continuance Bill at the end of November last and has since received consideration in my Department. It is desirable that electors should have a clear indication as to the place appointed for them to vote at a general election, but whether the issue of an election card to each elector by the State would suffice to obviate the issue of election statements by candidates containing this and other information is being examined. The great need for economy in paper has to be borne in mind.

Will a decision be reached before the election?

Yes, if it is desirable to make a change.
