Vol. 89 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Compensation for Mayo Lands.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that the Mayo County Council took over part of the lands of John Griffin, Michael Killeen and Peter Conway, Ranahard, Koilmore, Claremorris, for the purpose of widening the Ballyhaunis-Claremorris road over two years ago; that the county council have refused to pay the tenants for the said lands; that the tenants are paying rent for the lands acquired to the Land Commission, and if he will state the cause of delay by the county council in having the tenants paid for their lands.

There have been no official representations from the county council in connection with this matter, but from inquiries made I understand that the lands in question were acquired for road widening. I have not yet ascertained full particulars as to the delay in making payment, but it appears that the county council are not satisfied that the persons referred to are able to show title.
