Vol. 89 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sligo Holding.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will take immediate steps to have the holding of the late J.P.P. Costello, at Kilfree, on the Caddell estate, Sligo (S. 6218), acquired by the Land Commission for division amongst the tenants whose valuations are under £5, the whole question of which was stated by the Minister on 11th June, 1941, to be under investigation; and, further, whether the said farm has recently been purchased by private treaty from Mrs. Costello; and, if so, what action will be taken to safeguard the interests of the tenants in this acutely-congested area, who have been looking forward for years to the division of this farm.

Owing to the emergency conditions, it has not been possible to complete the investigation in connection with the question of resumption of this holding. The Land Commission have been informed that it is proposed to sell the tenancy interest in the holding, but they have no information as to whether the sale has been completed. Any sale would be without prejudice to their powers of resumption under the Land Acts.
