Vol. 89 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Appointment to Temporary Departmental Positions.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he will give instructions that preference will be given in future to men and women in receipt of small I.R.A. or Cumann na mBan pensions when filling temporary positions in the Department of Supplies.

The question of preferences in selecting candidates for temporary appointments must be considered in the light of the qualifications which may be required to perform the duties for which the appointments are being made. There are no vacancies in temporary posts for men in the Department of Supplies at present. Any vacancies that arise in the Department for temporary female clerical assistants are filled from the results of a selection board held last August and September which interviewed some 800 candidates registered for clerical work at the Dublin and Dun Laoghaire employment exchanges.
