Vol. 89 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sugar for Jam-Making.

asked the Minister for Supplies if any sugar will be available for jam-making this year; and if it is proposed to differentiate between those who have grown their own fruit and those who have purchased fruit to make jam.

Owing to the limited supplies of sugar available, it will not be possible to make any special allocation of sugar during 1943 to enable householders to make jam in the home.

Does the Minister not consider that it is desirable to encourage the growing of fruit?

I think it is very desirable, and I should like very much if we had the sugar to make it possible to release supplies for jam manufacture in the home.

You may find that you will not have the fruit when you have the sugar.

It would not be much good when you have not the sugar.
