Vol. 89 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Material for Salmon Fishing Nets.

asked the Minister for Supplies whether any supplies of material for the making of salmon-fishing nets will be forthcoming; and, if so, whether he will say on what basis it is proposed to distribute them to the salmon fisheries.

As regards supplies of net-making material, I would refer the Deputy to the reply which I gave on the 3rd instant to a similar question. As regards the second part of the question, the basis of distribution will depend on the relationship between the total quantity of material made available and the quantity sought, and also on the priority of the orders already placed with the net makers.

Can all bona fid salmon fisheries assume that they will get some share of the allocation?

No. You cannot even assume there is going to be an alloca tion yet.

No, but in the event of an allocation being given us by the British of materials suitable for making nets, can all fisheries assume that they will get some share of it, however small?

The distribution will be carried out subject to the recommendations of the Sea Fisheries Association.

And applications as to the basis on which that distribution is going to be made may properly be addressed to the Sea Fisheries Association?
