Vol. 89 No. 12

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Damage to Lands.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that, while the Army was cutting turf in Lullymore and Drimsnee, County Kildare, considerable damage was done to the lands of Thomas Cross and William McCann of Drimsnee, Rathangan, County Kildare, and that as a result of Army traffic, the road through Drimsnee is now almost impassable, and if he will have the matter examined with a view to compensating these men for the damage done to their property and effecting repairs to the road.

I am aware that portion of the land of William McConn was occupied as a camping ground by troops who were engaged on turf-cutting operations. It is assumed that William McConn is the person to whom the question partly relates, and not William McCann. A claim for compensation in respect of this occupation was received from Mr. McConn in November last, and an offer of settlement was made to him on 2nd February, 1943. The rejection by Mr. McConn of this offer necessitated a re-examination of his claim which it is hoped to settle at an early date.

I am not aware that any damage was done to the lands of Thomas Cross, or that the road through Drumaru is now almost impassable, but I am having these matters examined.
