Vol. 89 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Stradbally Water Supply Scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is now in a position to sanction proposals, submitted some considerable time ago by the Leix County Council to his Department, for the provision of a suitable water supply scheme for Stradbally, County Leix.

The Deputy should be aware from replies to previous questions that sanction to the plans for the proposed water supply scheme was given in January, 1941, and that the Department has done everything possible to facilitate its provision. The delay which has taken place was occasioned by difficulties in securing acquisition of the necessary water rights. Even if these rights are now settled satisfactorily, I may say from experience of similar works that it will be very difficult to obtain the necessary materials, especially pumping plant, for the carrying out of the work.
