Vol. 89 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Remuneration of County Mayo Home Assistance Officers.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the average rate of remuneration payable to home assistance officers in County Mayo; whether the local authority recommended an increase in these rates; and, if so, whether the increase was sanctioned, and, if not, why; whether he will favourably consider the adoption generally of a scale of remuneration applicable to these officers more appropriate to existing conditions than the scales now in force.

In Mayo County the average rate of remuneration of home assistance officers, who are also the sanitary, sub-officers for their respective areas, is £50 a year. As regards the latter part of the question, I am not in a position to make any statement, as I have received no proposal from the local authority to increase the remuneration of these officers.

And that is a living wage?

This is only a side-line.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary say what he thinks of this wage?
