Vol. 89 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hospitals Commission Report.

Mr. Byrne

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state whether any report of the Hospitals Commission subsequent to 1938 has been received; and, if so, when publication may be expected.

Mr. Byrne

Will the Parliamentary Secretary say what is the purpose of commissions sitting if they withhold the results of their inquiries from the elected representatives and the public generally?

The commission is under no obligation to publish a report at all.

Mr. Byrne

Then what are they appointed for?

To report to the Minister on various matters referred to them.

Mr. Byrne

And the Minister is to keep the information to himself?

That is a matter for his discretion.
