Vol. 89 No. 16

Written Answers. - Kerry Road Workers' Wages.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the rates of wages paid to road workers by Kerry County Council; whether he is aware that grave dissatisfaction exists in Kerry because of the refusal recently of the county council to increase the wages of these men; and whether he is prepared to indicate to the county council that the existing wages are inadequate.

The road workers employed by the Kerry County Council are paid at the rate of 35/- per week. In regard to the second and third parts of the question I am not prepared to do what the Deputy suggests. The present financial position of this county when compared with that of other counties is most unsatisfactory.
