Vol. 89 No. 19

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tyres for Auxiliary Fire-Fighting Services.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he is aware that the shortage of motor and cycle tyres among members of the auxiliary fire-fighting services has greatly impaired the efficiency of the fire-fighting services in County Dublin; and if, in view of this, he is prepared to grant the same facilities as regards permits for the purchase of motor and cycle tyres and tubes to the auxiliary fire-fighting services in County Dublin as have been granted to the L.D.F. and L.S.F.

I have not received any representations concerning the provision of motor car tyres for members of the auxiliary fire-fighting services in County Dublin. Tyres are, of course, being provided for fire-fighting vehicles as required. New motor tyres for private cars are not being manufactured.

As regards cycle tyres and tubes, I would refer the Deputy to the answer which I gave to a similar question on 3rd February, 1943. No special provision is being made in this year for the supply of cycle tyres and tubes to members of the L.D.F. and L.S.F. services. In view of the limited supplies available it is not possible to make arrangements for special allocations to these services or to the auxiliary fire-fighting service.

Has any more petrol come in recently?
