asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state how much butter was in cold storage at the 1st March, 1932, and quantity exported in the first three months of 1932; also the quantity in cold storage at 1st March, 1943, and the quantity exported in the first three months of this year.

The total quantity of butter in stock on the 1st March, 1932, was 11,083 cwt., of which 6,377 cwt. was creamery butter. The total stocks of butter on the 1st March, 1943, were 71,197 cwt., of which 65,266 cwt. was creamery butter. These figures do not include day-to-day stocks in the hands of shopkeepers. The total exports of butter during the three months January to March, 1932, were 6,170 cwt., of which 906 cwt. was creamery butter. No creamery butter was exported in the three months January to March, 1943, with the exception of a negligible quantity exported as gifts. A limited quantity of non-creamery butter for ships' stores was exported during this period.
