Vol. 90 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Supply of Insecticides.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether, in view of the fact that insecticides containing derris are no longer available, he will state what steps he proposes to take to provide substitutes such as pyrethrum, etc.

Although derris powder has not been imported as such, limited quantities of derris compounds have been imported, and no serious difficulty has so far arisen as regards the supply of horticultural insecticides made from this material. Other insecticides which were imported are in shorter supply, but no serious scarcity has been experienced up to the present.

Efforts have been made to obtain supplies of pyrethrum but without avail.

The question of obtaining further supplies of insecticides or of the raw materials for their manufacture is being pursued.
