Vol. 90 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Noxious Weeds Act.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state whether dandelions in blossom are classed as noxious weeds, if the Noxious Weeds Act is in force in County Dublin, and if public authorities come within the scope of this enactment; also if his attention has been called to the state of the highway and public part at Blackrock.

For the purposes of the Noxious Weeds Act, 1936, the dandelion is not classed as a noxious weed. The Act is in force in County Dublin and public authorities come within its scope.

The answer to the last part of the question is in the negative.

Does the Minister not think that better use could be made of that public park than the growing of dandelions? Surely potatoes and other vegetables could more usefully be grown?

I do not know that the Minister for Agriculture is responsible for what is grown in the park.

Does the Minister not think that he ought to be?

It is probably not included in the Compulsory Tillage Order.
