Vol. 90 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fixed Prices for Fat Cattle and Sheep.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if, in view of the fact that the existing schedule of prices fixed for fat cattle and sheep expires on the 27th June, 1943, he will state the result of the negotiations that have taken place between the British Ministry of Food and his Department regarding prices for the ensuing 12 months.

I have had under consideration the prices to be paid by the British Ministry of Food for fat cattle and sheep imported from this country during the period commencing on 28th June next. These prices do not vary in range from those fixed for the previous period of 12 months. Having regard to the fact that the prices to be paid to British producers have not been increased, I am satisfied that no useful purpose would be served by making further representations in the matter.

Will the Minister say if any discussions have taken place?

Several.

And the Minister has agreed to the same prices as obtained last year?

Nothing is agreed yet, but I do not think we will get any further.
