Vol. 90 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kildare Estate Water Supply.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether the Land Commission propose to erect a pump for the convenience of Messrs. Malone, Maguire, Cunningham, Sheridan, Butler and Harte, who were allotted holdings on the Aylmer Estate at Grange, Kilcock, and for whom no water supply has been provided by the Land Commission.

The question of the need for a special water supply for the allottees on the Aylmer Estate mentioned by the Deputy is being investigated. The estate was divided as long ago as 1936.

Will the Minister bear in mind, in the consideration which he now indicates will take place, that the allottees in question were promised by the person dividing the land on behalf of the Land Commission that a pump would be sunk for their convenience? As a matter of fact, no water has been provided for them by the Land Commission. They have to travel over half a mile in order to get water, and, in doing so, have to trespass on private property. In view of that, will the Minister ensure that the matter of providing a water supply for these allottees will be sympathetically considered?

It is not the policy of the Land Commission when the division of an estate, as has happened in this case, has been completed for a considerable period of years, to undertake improvement works. As the Deputy knows, these improvement works are carried out at the time when the scheme is being put into operation. I do not know whether the allottees, to whom the Deputy refers, have a great or a small grievance. I have promised him that the matter will be further investigated, and I do not think I can go any further. This is not the only thing that the allottees are looking for. They are now looking for a road.

They do not get too much, no matter what they look for.
