Vol. 90 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Old Age Pensions.

asked the Minister for Finance whether, with a view to ascertaining the desirability of providing for the payment of the old age pension at the age of 60 years or at the age of 65 years, he will make inquiries (1) from the various boards of assistance as to the number of persons (a) between the ages of 60 and 65, and (b) between the ages of 65 and 70, who are partially or totally dependent upon public assistance, and (2) from the various charitable organisations as to the extent of destitution amongst persons of those ages.

Mr. Boland

The answer is in the negative.

Mr. Byrne

Is the Minister aware that there is in fact great destitution amongst persons between the ages of 60 and 70, that persons of that age are unable to work and are disqualified from receiving certain other State allowances?
