asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether the Government will take steps to ensure that additional passenger trains will be run to meet the essential needs of the public.

The fuel position does not permit of the operation of any additional passenger trains at the present time. So far as possible, available fuel and engine-power must be utilised for the transport of foodstuffs and fuel which are essential to the life of the community.
